Springy stylings - Montreal's South Shore family photographer

Saw a groundhog yesterday. Truth. As I drove down the fairly busy street, I saw him prepping to cross. And since I brake for animals, my headlights and his eyeballs had a bit of a moment. He hurried off from whence he came. From my rear view mirror, I saw him make it by on his second try. And I smiled to myself. Not just because the cute little fur-ball survived his adventure, but because he announced spring to me.

Spring.

Spring is also when I get going on family photo sessions again. Because who wants an indoor session when you can have an outdoor one, I ask you?

Here's a little help on how to prep your wardrobe for the coming spring family session you've scheduled for, or for any family session, really.

It is usually easiest to start with your inspiration piece. Here we start with a sweater for mom to wear, but it could be a plaid shirt from daddy's closet, or a floral skirt from the little one's. Anything with fun colours to pull on.

With it being minus 40 Celsius out there, how can I help but allow my thoughts to wander towards the warmer weather. (And really, it's not that far off: Only 8 weeks until spring. Wee!)

For me, spring is synonymous with many lovely things like more daylight (and more vitamin D), tree blossoms, and outdoor photo sessions.

Pinning away, I started thinking back to some of last year's best styled family sessions. Here are a few that worked, with my two cents as to why.

1. Keeping it sweet...
While mama sported a powder pink shift dress, daddy's in basic white shirt layered over a t-shirt offering a pop of colour. Where did these two get their palette from? Baby boy's plaid shirt. Oh, and those overalls! Cute!
