I purposed, before the birth of my daughter, to be the kind of mom I'd long wanted to be. At all costs. Unbeknownst to her, my daughter had thrown me a challenge. I needed to use my God-given talents and life's passions to be productive while still working around her needs and her schedule. Here are some daily adventures and small successes.

Nesting, and other newborn coziness - Montreal's South Shore newborn photographer
Revisited the nest set-up again recently. It's still terribly messy indoors, but these clients were fine with a little clean-up. I tweaked a few details in the concept, and will happily repeat this nest set-up again.

You may have spotted this idea around the web. Or you've been to a wedding and they had installed a photo booth for fun. (And FUN it is!)

Little birds, and other cutenesses - Montreal's South Shore newborn photographer
Here's the set-up that I just had to use.
I mean, had to. As mommy-to-be and I planned this newborn session, she wanted to use an owl hat she'd fallen in love with. We built the nest from scratch and concocted a more-elaborate-than-usual backdrop for new baby boy.
Then I met new baby boy. And he taught me what it meant to love arms.
When I say "love arms," I mean he didn't want to be put down. Like. Ever.
Segway: Yes, that is a wee baby bowtie he's wearing whilst in grandmother's arms. And yes, we did successfully nab pics with him wearing it. Here's one now...

What seems to be turning into an annual tradition - Montreal's South Shore child photographer
These pics have been under wraps for a little while now. Again this year, we got the grandkids together to gift photos to my mom (AKA Grand-maman, AKA Kamou) for Christmas.

Squishy hugs and other good things - Montreal's South Shore family photographer
Nothing but sheer admiration for this family, who were at their very best despite it being one of THE hottest days of the summer.

A little later than expected (wowzers, I've been swamped over here) but here are the final peeks from the Sleepytime session...

Not-so-sleeping beauty - Montreal's South Shore child photographer
Sunset, an antique bed, and a vintage custom nightgown (from Sprouting Jube Jube, of course).
Oh, and this beauty...

Before & after baby - Montreal's South Shore newborn photographer
Very fond of my brand-new wool cocoon which I used for the first time with this cute brand-new baby. Thanks also to the clients' monochromatic textured bedding and tufted headboard, I loved this series of shots even before any edits.

Classics - Montreal's South Shore children's photographer
There's a picture of my brother in our family photo album. He was about 10 years old, wearing a checked short sleeve button down and a pair of jeans. He's feeding deer. (If you're Canadian, I'm sure that, at the very least, you know someone with that same sort of pic.) Though the shot was taken over 30 years ago, it retains a certain timelessness. (OK, admittedly, his pants are pulled up a tad high.) Contrarily, bowl cuts, orange gingham pinafore dresses, and ruffle-icious ankle socks have me looking back at my childhood pics with a touch of dread and a case of the giggles.
I think there's something valuable about capturing the classics; something that's a little hard to date (and a little harder to look back on and laugh at).
And speaking of classics: blue collared tee, cargo shorts, and perfectly boyish tousles are elements I love about this little guys photos.
Not to mention "Where the Wild Things Are." If your little one doesn't have a copy of this yet, remember it while Christmas shopping for them. Timeless.
