I purposed, before the birth of my daughter, to be the kind of mom I'd long wanted to be. At all costs. Unbeknownst to her, my daughter had thrown me a challenge. I needed to use my God-given talents and life's passions to be productive while still working around her needs and her schedule. Here are some daily adventures and small successes.

Short shoot; tall gal - Montreal's South Shore child tween photographer

Have a tall girl who loves skinny jeans? How's that working for you? Adjustable waistband cinched so tight it looks like your kid's wearing a sac? Or else so short that you're looking for that perfect pair of boots? In 2 colours?

Sprouting Jube Jube to the rescue. And just in time for fall. :)

Local, small business kinda Christmas - Montreal's South Shore entrepreneur

I'm so excited to hand out gifts from so many local (read: right here on the shore) entrepreneurs again this Christmas. I'll be doling out some teachers gifts from Montreal Confections and JustMe Papercrafts. Family member will also be getting a dose of that, as well as goodies from Gourmet Shop.

Here's a sampling of the recent foodie shoot I did for Gourmet Shop...

Keeping toes warm

Remember these two?

Well, guess what? ONS GEAR, a wonderfully innovative Canadian company, is doing something great. For each pair of socks purchased at The InnoShop today, ONS GEAR will donate one pair of baby Stay On Socks to St. Mary's Home in Ottawa, keeping one more baby warm this Winter!

To make this even more enticing, benefit from 75% off their Stay On Socks. That's less than a buck a pair! My personal advice: call your mommy friends and do one big order to save on shipping. And don't forget what great Christmas gifts these socks will make.

Paper Coterie luv, and why I do the digital option - Montreal's South Shore Photographer

Introducing my new  love. I mean it. LOVE!

Paper Coterie is all cute all the time. Check it out!

These guys specialize in customizeable paper products, photobooks, calendars and more. And they do it like no other. Fresh, stylish, and enchanting. Downside? Shipping to Canada is a real *gulp*. (Rumor has it they'll be fixing that before the year's end...fingers crossed!)

Right now they're offering 40% off their brand new addition: the MemoryBox. Cuteness. (They're offering free shipping, too, but not to Canada. Wanh!)

We're all about keepsake boxes at my house. It's an organizational dream. "You can only keep what fits in the box" is a famous saying. OK, so the only one listening to me is my 6 year-old. But I fully expect it to catch on.

Thanks to the customizeable Memory Boxes by Paper Coterie, lookie what I whipped up for my little munchkin! All I have to do is enter "memorybox" at checkout for my 40% off. Sweet!

And that's just one of the million reasons why I insist on offering the digital versions of my pics. If you want to use images from your last photo session with me, you can! I've even included a print release letter in the DVD of images, just in case they ask. Easy AND peasy.

Free is fabulous

If you follow me over on my Facebook Page, you may have noticed my post a few days ago about a free offer of a 4x4 brag book from Walmart's Photo Centre.

Now, though I don't prefer to print my photos at Walmart, they do offer a wealth of fun photo products. These mini-brag books are just one example.

This free offer came to me just as my daughter is starting to learn to read. So I figured, "Why not make her a book she can read though that's about her and all the wonderful things she is?"

Here's a little of what I came up with:

The idea was to have her practice her reading while articulating all these positive affirmations. I think she'll love it, and I know it's an instant keepsake.

The final result, because of how this brag book is formatted by the photo centre, will have a black border around each image. I'd prefer without, but again, free.

As a side-note, what fun I had digging through some archived pics of my getting-bigger-every-day girl. This one made me swoon a little...

*swoon.*

Fresh picked for spring

Angel Lily proves they've got your little one's head covered with the launch of their Baby Beans.

Just in time for spring, Angel Lily offers your little ones (and not so little ones) sweetly crocheted hats in a variety of styles, colours, and sizes.

Love the jersey knit hats, too! There are 2 models for boys and this one for girls. Too cute for words! (A little like the chubby model sporting her fashion find.)

They start as low as $20, so why not pop in to angellily.ca and have a look around!

Sprouting Jube Jube Collection

Bibs & washcloths, oversized swaddling blankets, and more handmade-with-love goodies from Sprouting Jube Jube.

Preshrunk, 100% cotton fabrics are full of life, handpicked by a mom who knows her stuff. (No, I'm not just saying that because she's my sister.)

"Like" it? I love it!

How I love an innovative Canadian company that has a heart for those less fortunate.

Here's one such company. It's called ONS Gear. Based out of Ottawa, these smarty pants make some of the most ingenious onesies, socks and mittens (etc...) I've ever seen. And they don't stop there.

ONS Gear is donating a slew of Onesie Stretch-ONS to Mothercraft Ottawa, a non-profit organization which supplies programs and services to parents with infants and young children. And you can help. Simply visit ONS Gear on Facebook and "Like" their page. For every new "Like" in the month of October, they'll donate a onesie. Simple!

So not only do these great onesies stretch to high heaven, but this winter they'll be warming the bodies of some babies who need a little extra help staying warm. To put it the way ONS puts it:
"[A] recent study found that one in five Canadian mothers are struggling just to provide diapers for their babies". Together, we can help some of those new moms out...keeping [babies] warm this winter with an extra layer of clothing. You can help by asking your friends to "Like" ONS GEAR.

Billy boot ballerina - Montreal South Shore Photographer

Evangelina has always been my ballerina -- primarily because her name rhymes with ballerina. (You know how we invent little songs for our babies...like my nephew was Sébastien le petit pingouin.)

We've recently noticed that she has in fact inherited her mother's legs. Welcome to a lifetime of knobby knees. Nothing wrong with that. Keeps the boys away in high school.

She really loves her rubber boots. During out mini photo shoot today, we discovered that they've somehow sprung a leak. If I can't find that hole and patch it, I'm sending her to school with 3 spare pair of socks tucked away in her backpack on rainy days. I don't buy her rain boots a size too big to have to change them out when they finally fit her. Seriously.

One thing I've been able to train her to do: laugh and not smile for pictures. I highly recommend we all teach our kids to pose for pictures in this way. It should be up there with shoelace tying (which she cannot do) and washing behind ears (which she also cannot do).

We both love Angel Lily Bows. She loves them so much she'll allow me to brush the knots out of her hair to get to wear one. That's real love right there. Because one other way she's like her mother, anyone who comes within 10 feet of her with a hairbrush is privy to ear piercing screams and yelps of, "It hurts!" (I can't believe I tortured my mom that way.)

On page 30-something

The October '09 edition of Coup de Pouce is on stands now. Awe, and look at the pic of that cute baby with his mommy! Hey...wait a sec! I took that shot.

(Babyburrito is that great line I've talked about before.)

Hot off the press

Pick up your copy of 7-Jours (March 6th edition) to find my photos all the wee-way at the bottom of page 72. OK, so it's not front page news, but it is the first induction into my editorial portfolio.

These pics were taken last summer for Angel Lily (Baby & Toddler bows). Maker of this line: mommypreneur extraordinaire, Ly-a Toye. I've shot her line a few times. Not to mention, every recent picture of my own daughter in a dress shows off an Angel Lily bow. For more examples of her goodies, check out her website.
